The Teacher Olympics were started in the summer of 2006 as part of National Physical Education and Sport Week to promote physical activity among the Mohawk Elementary staff. It was designed for teachers to have fun and at the same time set a good example for students. Teachers from each grade level competed against other grade levels in five different events. An opening and closing ceremony was held along with a medal ceremony. Students made signs to cheer on and support teachers from their grade level. The teachers served as excellent role models showing good sportsmanship and cooperation. The event was so successful that a Winter Olympics also takes place in January.
