Operation:  KINDNESS

Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) is an organization located in Pittsburgh that assists deployed members of the United States Military.  The mission of OTA is “to build and sustain the morale of deployed troops, enabling them to complete their missions with the assurance that the American public supports and appreciates their selfless service and daily sacrifices.  Operation Troop Appreciation is dedicated to members of our Armed Forces serving and sacrificing for our country. By providing them with “wish list” items that contribute to their morale, we present a united front to our deployed military by supporting them as individuals, for every one of them: memorializes our nation's past; sacrifices to maintain our nation's culture and freedoms; and ensures the safety and freedom of our nation's future generations.”  According to OTA, they have assisted over 130,000 United States Troops.

This is the fifth year in which the Mohawk Area School District, community, churches, and local businesses are collaborating in a joint effort to support OTA and our military heroes.  Last year was our most successful drive -- we collected OVER 4700 in donation items and $700.00 in monetary donations, which were sent to our deployed troops along with supportive cards and letters written by the students and staff .  Our donation drive will take place in conjunction with the elementary school Memorial Day program.  We are asking our families and district staff to participate again by donating inexpensive items such as the following:
